STATEMENT ON BOXING DAY SHOOTING IN NW CALGARY

The Somali Canadian Society of Calgary is aware of reports that a 23 year-old male Somali youth was killed in what the Calgary Police is calling a targeted attack on December 26, 2019.

Unfortunately, these kinds of reports are not new to our community. The potential that the Somali youth possess to succeed is unmatched and that is why each incident inflicts a fresh wound to the community. The issues plaguing our youth and community overall need to be addressed and it is only through a united front that we may move past what has been a dark period in the Somali-Canadian history.
