Start dates vary. Although previous experience is not required for these positions, preference will be given to those with previous experience in the non-profit/community support sectors.

 Somali Canadian Society of Calgary is searching for our next Summer Camp Counselor and is accepting resumes from qualified job seekers! As the Summer Camp Counselor, you will be responsible for executing, facilitating and supervising summer camp activities for our attendees. Note: This position is for a full time 9-week period, running from June 28, 2021 to August 27, 2021.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Lead/Mentor and supervise children and youth (ages 8 to 14) to ensure the safety and well-being of participants at all times 

  • Coordinate and facilitate meaningful activities for participants 

  • Provide leadership in a variety of recreational and social activities with a high level of energy and enthusiasm 

  • Encourage positive behavior and learning experiences in a developmentally and culturally responsive manner

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of supplies 

  • Maintain positive relationships with participants, parents, and community volunteers 

  • Work collaboratively with a team of camp leaders and volunteers 

  • Assist in maintaining attendance records and incident reports

  • Manage appropriate COVID-19 guidelines in camp, including mask use, hand hygiene, equipment sanitization, etc.



• Experience working with children in recreation and/or summer camp settings

• Ability to form caring, responsive relationships with children and youth

• Fluency English and Somali is considered an asset

• A reliable mode of transportation

• A current Police Check Clearance and vulnerable sector search

• Standard First Aid & CPR certification is required before camp date.
